CAKE Byte - L'Amour Pour Les Peres
A few weeks back, CAKE chronicled the relatively new phenomenon of "Hot Mamas" - moms who embody a sense of pride, prowess, and a go get em attitude that says "I am a sexual creature" reflecting the uncompromised woman who does not compartmentalize her life, but celebrates the fluidity of femininity. In turn, we received a multitude of praising responses from hot mamas around the globe acknowledging that they too want to be heard (see CAKE Byte - Hot Mama for details.) With Fathers Day around the corner, we feel that its only fair to throw the men a few props their way for stepping it up into the new realm of what we like to call the "Sexy Dad." You know the ones - self assured and sensual, gracious and lovely. When we see you walking down the street with your newborn babies all wrapped up in those adorable sacks, you make our hearts swoon. What is sexier than a man who embraces his role as a nurturer? A man who loves and cares for his baby with a sense of selfishness and confidence exudes sexiness.
Fatherhood has long been a neglected rite of passage in our culture and has virtually been ignored by our collective definitions of masculinity. We say no longer. Instead of thinking of Fathers Day this year as the same old, same old honoring dear Pops, we say it is time to give our new, sexy dads the gift of pleasure - no, no, no, not anything porno - ewe! How about just a little acknowledgment to those men who insist on being a partner in raising a family and fulfill the obligation of sex object in the process? Sure thing, our gift this year is a wink and a nod from us to you as we pass you on the street.
And as long as we are honoring the boys this week, CAKE wants to give it up to the revolutionary, street artist, - "De La Vega" - James De La Vega. You know the guy who chalks and tapes the streets with his philosophical renderings of whats good and bad with the world. We just caught James in cognito wearing a big blue Afro wig in the Union Square area scrolling "Beauty magazines make my girlfriend feel ugly." Thats right - you say it James! De La Vega's art provokes thought, action and dialogue. Most importantly, he seems to know exactly what we are thinking while we walk down the street contemplating changing the world. He makes our streets his own cultural tableau.
