CAKE Byte – The Howling

"Can I pet your wolverine?" Well, of course you can, especially if you are singing to us like Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers…but really, did you know that wolverines howl? Oh, yes, yes they do. You see when it comes to our orgasms, us girls like to EXPRESS ourselves!

Contrary to popular opinion, the female orgasm does not come passively, nor are our libidos lower than guy’s libidos. These misconceptions about female sexuality are in serious need of dispelling in this day and age for goodness sakes. Moreover, "Did you come?" should be nixed from our cultural syntax. Think about it. No one thinks to ask a guy if he faked it because of the obvious "evidence" of it, but then the same should be said for the female orgasm. You see the female orgasm in all its glory is visual, expressive, animated, pulsating and yes, explosive. Plus, it lasts about 2x as long as a male orgasm, while allowing for the possibility of several - one after another! So what’s up with the vagueness and uncertainty around women’s orgasms and the inevitability of the male orgasm? Why the disconnect?

The human sexual response cycle, AKA the libido, for both men and women goes up and goes down. Women have arousal cycles that vaguely follow our menstrual cycle. Of course, positive body image, information and knowledge about what turns us on and giving ourselves the right to experience pleasure all contribute to a more active sex drive. On average (but certainly all women differ - get to know your own cycle, personally) women are especially "hornballs" leading up to and around ovulation and many, many women report that they get really, really horny during their periods. Regardless of the peaks, a rule of thumb with the female libido is when we assume to be sexual creatures 24/7, we wholeheartedly dive into the pursuit of pleasure whenever and where ever humanly possible. Trust us.

Thankfully judging from CAKE.Girl statistics, most of you out there are NOT into faking it – instead you are averaging 5 orgasms per week via masturbation (we like to think CAKE and the Hitachi Magic Wand has something to do with that), oral sex and intercourse on a regular basis. But, if you are faking it, STOP now before you hurt yourself. No really, you deserve more. The female orgasm is too delicious, too good, too important, too empowering to cheat yourself out of – it’s all about the personal expression of our pleasure. Most importantly, when experiencing an orgasm, women are inescapably assertive sexual beings. So you see it’s really impossible to fake the real thing. Who would want to argue with that?

Now go howl away.

What’s New?

Letter from the Editor - Melinda Gallagher - Summer 2002:

"On the Issue of Empowerment - The Business of CAKE" - Taken as a whole, the business of CAKE is the business of pleasure. By creating a business based on female sexual culture, CAKE seeks not to merely substitute a female perspective for a male perspective, but rather to dismantle the entire structure of binary opposition in favor of mutuality - a mutuality that adequately and correctly reflects the sexual lifestyles of present-day women and men.
